Step into a world of detail, imagination and storytelling, whether it be small or super-sized groups!
I love connecting with audiences, whether they’re children or adults. My talks and workshops are all about sharing my creative journey and the stories behind my books. I engage pupils with exciting insights into my illustration process and the adventures that inspire my work.
I share my family story in the Blitz and WW2 and how those personal and moving stories made me want to create this book.
I explain the research and detail in the book and how through determination and overcoming set backs, this book finally got made.
This is an inspirational journey and a talk that will spark the desire in pupils to learn about the war, military & family history.

I share original artwork from the book along with actual items from WW1 from my private collection. I analyse each illustration highlighting points of interest for storytelling and historical relevance
This is an ever evolving talk. I read sections from the book and share the lifelong fascination with the Moon landings and space travel. Why I wrote to NASA as a child and how a chance meeting with Prof Chris Riley ultimately ended with a Number One best selling book. I tell stories from the Apollo era and also host a 'draw-a-long' so the pupils become illustrators themselves!

A deeply moving talk about my research 'Finding Wilfred Owen' and how through knowledge, I gained enough confidence to attempt to illustrate an untouchable masterpiece!

Honouring the animals in WW1, this talk is a very popular one with Primary schools.
I give a short history of how dogs were used in WW1 along with Pigeons and many unlikely heroes.

“I just wanted to personally thank you for your visit to our school in the Autumn Term. Watching the children across all ages interact with you and your art work was inspirational. The staff also gave me some brilliant feedback . Art is a main focus for us this academic year and for the children to learn from someone like you who has shown resilience and determination when the odds were stacked against them to succeed, is brilliant. We teach the children at Kader that they can have ‘Big Dreams’ and through hard work can be anything they want to be.”

“Monday 13th November 2023 was an exciting day for Lime Tree Primary Academy, as we welcomed the famous Martin Impey into our school. Our children were enthralled by his stories of resilience and were amazed at the works he had been involved in- who ever knew he illustrated for Disney! Martin led a whole school assembly for us and t hen workshops appropriate to age. He wowed our children with his masterpieces and stories. (The staff even learnt a thing or two, too!). The children were able to buy sign ed copies of his books and he left a lovely illustration in our guest book.
A memorable day for everyone and would highly recommend a visit to your school.“

“Martin has delivered a range of workshops and talks at St Columba's College in the last 5 years. These include online talks during Covid, year group assemblies and practical Art workshops. Martin speaks with passion and authority on the subject of World War One but also has specialist knowledge on other subjects, such as the moon landings . His personal quest to discover the experiences of his own family during the war provide an intimate portrait of life during that time and Martin's many artefacts from the period bring these stories to life. He is, however, at his best when making art with students in the classroom. He provides informative demonstrations of techniques that he use s in his own book illustrations and, most importantly, talks to students at their level to draw out their interests in the subject. That genuine curiosity about individual creativity and connection with young people is what makes the workshops an inspiring learning experience.”

"A massive thank you from all of us at Summerswood for your visit on Thursday. The children have been so inspired by you and many of them want to be illustrators when they are older! Your visit has really brought alive our whole school unit of work.
It was really special to have the whole school read your book together, I know the children will be talking about it for a long time!"

"We had an amazing day in school with Martin talking to classes right across Key Stage 2. It was inspirational and thought provoking...
The pupils were told things about World War One which they wouldn't have otherwise known and they loved the fact they could see 'real artefacts'...
Watching Martin draw and bring the characters to life was amazing;
it looked so easy because he drew everything so naturally."
